Volunteer Position: Collections Team

Adopt an Artifact!

We're looking for volunteers to "adopt" an artifact. What does this mean? 

  • You'll be assigned an artifact from our collection;

  • Your first task will be. to write a short description of the item that will appear in our catalogue;

  • Then the search is on! You'll seek out anything you can learn about the item: who was the manufacturer? What material(s) is it made from? Anything you can find will help us to contextualize the artifact and its history. 

Commitment Levels

Volunteers can commit to a single artifact or can keep coming back to "adopt" more! Time commitment will vary depending on the search component of the artifact's history. 

All volunteers will be credited in the catalogue alongside the entry they contribute to. 

Skills Required

  • An interest and enthusiasm for local history, culture, and storytelling;

  • Excellent communication and writing skills; 

  • Reliable and organized;

  • Respect, patience, and courtesy with all staff and fellow volunteers; 

  • Resourceful digital research skills an asset. 

Training

Volunteers will be provided with instructions on the process and all information available on the adopted artifact. Research training and support will be determined by the experience level of the volunteer.
