Volunteer Position: Collections Team
Adopt an Artefact!
We're looking for volunteers to "adopt" an artefact. What does this mean?
You'll be assigned an artefact from our collection;
Your first task will be. to write a short description of the item that will appear in our catalogue;
Then the search is on! You'll seek out anything you can learn about the item: who was the manufacturer? What material(s) is it made from? Anything you can find will help us to contextualize the artefact and its history.
Volunteers can commit to a single artefact or can keep coming back to "adopt" more! Time commitment will vary depending on the search component of the artefact's history.
All volunteers will be credited in the catalogue alongside the entry they contribute to.
An interest and enthusiasm for local history, culture, and storytelling;
Excellent communication and writing skills;
Reliable and organized;
Respect, patience, and courtesy with all staff and fellow volunteers;
Resourceful digital research skills an asset.
Volunteers will be provided with instructions on the process and all information available on the adopted artefact. Research training and support will be determined by the experience level of the volunteer.
