Volunteer Position: Event Support

There are several options available for the Event Support role:

Casual: Assist at and support events on a case-by-case basis. Dates and descriptions of events for the upcoming months are provided through the our e-Newsletter you can sign up for below.

Regular: Assisting staff and tour guides on a regular schedule with Interpretive Centre events, including our monthly walking Tours, and Exhibit launches.

Commitment Levels

Casual: Volunteers are asked to commit to supporting an event on a case by case basis. Event information will be distributed at least one month in advance through our e-Newsletter below. Volunteers interested in supporting events are asked to sign up for the newsletter to hear about upcoming opportunities.

Regular: Volunteers are asked to commit at least 6 to 12 hours a month (2-4 shifts) for at least three months. Shifts and duties can, to an extent, be built around the volunteer’s schedule and tailored to their interests or career goals.

Skills Required

  • Energy and enthusiasm, with interest in community involvement

  • Excellent communication skills, and comfortable interacting with people

  • Reliable and punctual

  • Respect, patience, and courtesy with all visitors, staff, and fellow volunteers

Training

Volunteers will receive training on the Interpretive Centre and its activities, as well as event specific information. Volunteers will be asked to come in 15-30 minutes prior to the event for specific training and to assist in event set-up. Each volunteer will receive a digital welcome package that includes information, policies, and contact information prior to the event. One on one support from the Lakeshore Grounds Interpretive Centre staff is always available.

Sign up for our e-Newsletter and respond to opportunities that interest you.

Option 2 (Regular schedule):

Email a Cover Letter and CV to Nadine Finlay, Curator at info@lakeshoregrounds.ca

Cover Letter should include:

  • Whether you have visited the Lakeshore Grounds Interpretive Centre before

  • Why you want to volunteer with the Lakeshore Grounds Interpretive Centre

  • Highlight your experience or opportunitie syou have had related to the position description
