Geneva Gillis (she/her)
Assistant Curator

Geneva is a current Ph.D. student at the Faculty of Information at the University of Toronto. Her research focuses on community museums in Southern Ontario and the ways in which their communities directly impact and influence institution responses to community needs through exhibitions, collections, and programming initiatives. She has previously earned a Master of Museum Studies at the University of Toronto, a Master of History at McMaster University, and an Honours Bachelor’s degree in History and Philosophy with a Minor in Art History at McMaster University.

Geneva has previously held positions in community-centred heritage institutions and loves building connections with local communities to better serve their interests and needs wherever she goes. Her goal’s focus on listening to and collaborating with communities to help create spaces where local interests can be shared, embodied, and actualized through collective and meaningful practices. Community is an important aspect of her personal, professional, and academic life, bringing that emphasis to her role at the Lakeshore Grounds Interpretive Centre.
