Hospital History Tour

Learn about the history of the former Lakeshore Psychiatric Hospital as we explore the patient-built underground tunnels and nineteenth-century cottages. The guided tour presents an overview of the 89 years of the Hospital's history and acknowledges the varied experiences of patients and staff.

About the event
The Hospital History Tour begins inside the Student Welcome and Resource Centre at 2 Colonel Samuel Smith Park Dr. Seating, all gender and accessible washrooms, and water refill stations are available inside. Paid parking is available on site.
The tour route follows outdoor and indoor paved paths, please dress for the weather conditions on the day of the tour.
The Hospital History Tour follows mobility accessible routes that includes ramps and elevators in both indoor and outdoor spaces for an approximate 1.2 km total route. There are no places to sit along the route. If you would like to request additional support or information, reach out by email or phone and we will be happy to help.
Optional entry into unrenovated attics is not mobility accessible and is up a steep flight of stairs. Alternative formats of this section of the tour can be shared after the conclusion of the tour by request.
Tour and exhibitions are available before and after the tour. Due to space restrictions along the tour route, pre-registration is required for the tour. Open to all.
An email to all registered attendees confirming the time and date of the tour will be sent three days before the tour date.
