The buildings and grounds of the former Lakeshore Psychiatric Hospital stand in for the State Home for the Aged in this romantic film. At the beginning of the film, Stanley Cox (Robert DeNiro) is forced to check his father, Leonides (Feodor Chaliapin Jr.) into the State Home when he can no longer care for him.
In spite of the all-star cast, the film was considered a box office flop. It was also Jane Fonda's final film before a 15-year hiatus, ending when she starred in Monster-in-Law in 2005.
Filming on the Lakeshore Grounds
A room inside the cottages served as Leonides' bedroom, with several scenes being shot along the lawns outside the cottages as well as the Cricket Pitch at the south end of the campus.
