Canadian Bank of Commerce

A bank that resulted in the unification of two Canadian chartered banks. The then Canadian Bank of Commerce existing on the site since the 1930s had merged with the Imperial Bank of Canada on June 1, 1961 to become the bank that we all know today as Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC).

The earliest advertisement posting of the location was found in the 1963’s New Toronto Souvenir Booklet. On the brochure we can see a picture of the old CIBC building with a big caption of “Serving New Torontonians Night and Day”.

The CIBC Lakeshore Branch at 2935 Lakeshore Boulevard, although remodeled, still continues to exist and serves the community up to this present day.

In its last few years of operations, the name changed to Arrowhead Metals. The plant closed down in 1989.

Today, most of the land that previously covered this industrial brass empire from 13th to 8th street has become an empty lot and is currently available for sale.
